Trying something new this week and inviting you to join in a discussion thread (instead of just reading something I wrote). Things have felt really heavy for me this past week (COVID! war! abortion access! climate change! etc. etc.) so I would really, really love to hear about something that’s giving you hope right now. It could be a relatively small hope, like my baby slept for more than two consecutive hours and I have hope that I may, some day, not be exhausted beyond all comprehension. It may be a medium-sized hope like I might finally be able to afford to buy a vehicle that can hold my whole family. Or it might be a big, huge, life-changing hope! We would really love to hear about those ones!
Also: A quick plug for the Parenting Journalists conference, which will take place Friday, May 20. This conference launched last year and I can’t say enough about how valuable, accessible and thoughtful it was. If you’re a writer who parents or a parent who writes, I hope to see you there!

Emily, in spite of all the terrible news, I have hope that positive change is going to come out of this tumultuous period--like Europe perhaps moving faster on climate change measures to get away from dependence on oil from Russia. And I'm hopeful in daily life, too: My son, who has special needs, celebrated a birthday--got a haircut beforehand and was charming and happy throughout the party, and everyone else was happy too! And he went to school today!
Oh boy, this feels like the hardest time ever to answer this question... I think seeing some of my garden's flowers grow is what I'm coming back to as hopeful.
A tiny thing that’s giving me hope is that my picky eater child is showing some signs of being more open to trying new foods. It’s still very much a challenging thing but it’s so great to see her finding ways to do the work of exploring new things instead of always eating the exact same foods.

You. The writing you're doing. The way you parent. Your transparency. You. Hope to see you this summer for Dole Whip!
